Adult Ed

Adult Education is an important part of who we are as a congregation at Temple EmanuEl. We have a very active Adult Education Committee and are always interested in hearing your ideas and getting your participation in bringing new programs to EmanuEl or the greater community.

Hebrew

Hebrew classes are held at Temple Emanu-El during Sunday school. We offer Hebrew classes at both the beginning level (i.e. I don't know anything!) and more advanced levels. The classes are casual and very supportive and are offered at a low cost. If you'd like to become more proficient with Hebrew then please contact the office and sign up for a class. This is especially easy if you have children in Sunday school.

If you are interested in Hebrew then the web site balashon.blogspot.com is probably of interest to you. It's an amateur etymologist who looks into the roots of Hebrew words in a very readable way.

Chevrah Torah Study

The Chevrah Torah group has met every Shabbat at Temple Emanu-El for years. The group is always welcome and open to new members! A discussion based on the week's Torah portion is always lively and interesting. The group meets from 9:00 until 9:45. The readings are done in English from the Gunther Plaut The Torah : A Modern Commentary/English... and are ordinarily led by Rabbi Schwartz. Drop by Shabbat morning. There are signs up with directions to the study area.

Back to the Bible Class

Sundays during religious school Rabbi Schwartz teaches "Back to the Bible". This exciting class is working through the "rest" of the Bible. The text used for this class is Tanakh: The Holy Scriptures, The New JPS Translation According to the Traditional Hebrew Text
